Get into the Christmas mood by heading down to the Quay and admire the FTQ Christmas window; it is quintessentially Mistley with swans, boats, a mistletoe wreath - and of course the fence. The window is best seen at dusk and will be lit every day between 4.00pm and 8.00 pm.

12 years after TW Logistics enclosed the edge of the Quay in Mistley, the final appeal in the Supreme Court of the case against them brought on behalf of the people of Mistley is due to be heard on 2nd and 3rd of December. This is after a long Enquiry in the Village Hall in Mistley and the decision of Essex County Council to declare the Quay a Village Green for the enjoyment of the inhabitants of Mistley. The High Court and the Court of Appeal reviewed that decision at the request of TW Logistics and upheld the rights of Mistley’s inhabitants to the use of the quay as a Village Green. Free the Quay, which has led the campaign, has been advised that the prospects of success in the Supreme Court are good and FTQ is grateful to Essex County Council for their continued support defending the uninterrupted use of the Quay. This use is particularly appreciated by those walking on and enjoying the views from the Quay in these difficult times when the peace and tranquillity of the water’s edge is a particular benefit. The Supreme Court will be hearing the case remotely as is the normal these days. It will, of course, be possible for their proceedings to viewed by the public on www.supremecourt.uk/index.html We do hope that all those who are interested will be able to observe the proceedings which will also be available as a recording for some time after on the Supreme Court website. The Appeal in the Supreme Court of TWL Logistics v Essex County and I Tucker (for Free the Quay) to determine whether Mistley Quay should retain its Village Green Status for the enjoyment of the people of Mistley was due to be heard on 1st and 2nd April.
The hearing was supposed to go ahead using a video conferencing facility, which would enable court hearings to proceed while Justices and parties operate remotely from the court room. Unfortunately, as we were about to post the details of how to hear the proceedings, we heard that our Counsel Mr Richard Wald, who represented FTQ in the Appeal Court has been taken ill and the hearing has therefore been adjourned until further notice. People will be able to view the proceedings (eg. barristers and witnesses) by television in real time, even if they are not directly involved with the conferencing session itself. We will keep you posted on the new dates. Brighten up your bleak January and come along either on your own or with a team (8 per table). Tickets are £15 per person and include supper.
Make it extra special with a wreath - come to our wreath making workshop on Sunday 8 December at the Mistley Quay workshops.
