What would a Jazz Picnic be like without musicians? The answer is nothing – but we are grateful to eight wonderful young musicians for making the Free the Quay Jazz Picnic last Sunday such a roaring success.
The Quay Notes Five, a band of five young, local and very talented musicians who first played at a concert for FTQ in Mistley Church last October acquired two more members and played a mixture of Jazz and Blues; they were joined by London based singer/songwriter Flo Smart for one of the sets. Between them they showed off their musical skills on the clarinet, alto sax, baritone sax, soprano sax, piano, guitar, drums, bass clarinet, ukulele and a few other instruments as well as some wonderful singing – they kept us entertained for 5 hours non-stop. Our huge thanks go to: David Adams – Clarinet/Alto Sax/Soprano Sax Rebecca Adams - Vocals David Halstead – Baritone/Alto Sax/Clarinet James Hancock-Evans – Piano/Vocals Flo Smart - Piano/Guitar/Vocals Emily Wood – Drums/Piano/Vocals Oliver Wood – Drums/Piano/Vocals Thomas Wood – Clarinet/Vocals/Bass Clarinet/Soprano Sax With special thanks to Olly Wood for organising this amazing bunch of musicians. |
