12 years after TW Logistics enclosed the edge of the Quay in Mistley, the final appeal in the Supreme Court of the case against them brought on behalf of the people of Mistley is due to be heard on 2nd and 3rd of December. This is after a long Enquiry in the Village Hall in Mistley and the decision of Essex County Council to declare the Quay a Village Green for the enjoyment of the inhabitants of Mistley. The High Court and the Court of Appeal reviewed that decision at the request of TW Logistics and upheld the rights of Mistley’s inhabitants to the use of the quay as a Village Green. Free the Quay, which has led the campaign, has been advised that the prospects of success in the Supreme Court are good and FTQ is grateful to Essex County Council for their continued support defending the uninterrupted use of the Quay. This use is particularly appreciated by those walking on and enjoying the views from the Quay in these difficult times when the peace and tranquillity of the water’s edge is a particular benefit. The Supreme Court will be hearing the case remotely as is the normal these days. It will, of course, be possible for their proceedings to viewed by the public on www.supremecourt.uk/index.html We do hope that all those who are interested will be able to observe the proceedings which will also be available as a recording for some time after on the Supreme Court website.
